IBM collaborates with IIM Ahmedabad, conducts first of its kind hackathon using IBM Bluemix

Bengluru, Karnataka, India - 14 Feb 2017: IBM (NYSE: IBM) has collaborated with Indian Institute of Management  Ahmedabad to conduct the first of its kind hackathon for data engineers. Aptly titled, 'Sentiment analysis and stock performance’; upcoming data engineers can leverage data mining and analytics tools on live market data to identify the risk of default for companies, using IBM technologies including Bluemix, IBM’s cloud platform. 

 

The hackathon is a part of the 5th IIMA International Conference on Advanced Data Analysis, Business Analytics and Intelligence (ICADABAI 2017). The conference has been a pioneering platform for academicians and practitioners to share research based knowledge, case studies and novel business applications in business analytics. 

"Since 2009, IIM Ahmedabad has been conducting an international conference on advanced data analysis, business analytics and intelligence (ICADABAI) every alternate year. Over the years, it has matured into a platform for thought leadership in the area of data analytics among academicians and industry professionals alike. This year we are undertaking an initiative that would stimulate students, practitioners and academicians to connect theory with practice via a hackathon on an interesting business problem in partnership with IBM. ICADABAI 2017 Hackathon is an attempt to blend hands-on learning and research. Here, the participants would have an experience to solve  real-life challenging business problems. We hope that participants would enjoy working on this problem and be able to produce unique insights.” said Prof. Arnab Laha, ConvenorICADABAI 2017, IIM Ahmedabad.

Sriram Raghavan, Director, India Research Labs, IBM India/South Asia reiterated, "IBM enables next generation data engineers to solve real world problems and drive business value with IBM cloud platform applications, infrastructure and services. This hackathon enables the collaboration between data engineers to share knowledge about “best in class” tools that can bring ideas to reality."

The participants will be evaluated and mentored by the IIMA program committee. Registrations begin on February 10, 2017 with various rounds and the finale will take place on April 8 and 9, 2017.

As a part of the collaboration, participants will access Bluemix. IBM's cloud platform is based on open standards to build, deploy, manage and run multi-channel applications like web and mobile, big data and other services. As one of the world’s largest open, public cloud deployments, Bluemix features over 150 tools and services spanning categories of big data, mobile, Watson, analytics, integration, DevOps, security, Internet of Things and more.
